Groundwork
Before even considering riding a horse, you must learn to understand it... At Ranch Harmonie, we use ethology (the study of behavior) to communicate with our horses. This work is done on the ground. This allows us to observe each of the horse's behaviors and try to speak its language...

Groundwork lessons
At Ranch Harmonie in Longuesse, ethology (the study of behavior) and groundwork play a central role. This gentle and respectful approach allows riders to learn to communicate with horses differently, developing a relationship based on trust, understanding, and consistency.
You will discover how the horse perceives the world, how it learns, and how to adapt your approach to establish a genuine dialogue. Through a variety of exercises, conducted on foot – leading, mobilization, desensitization, precision exercises, equifeel, and Western groundwork disciplines (showmanship, in-hand trail, longe line) – you will learn to create a strong connection even before you get in the saddle.
Groundwork is ideal for:
- Better understand horse behavior
- Gaining security and confidence
- Develop clear and nuanced communication
- Progress calmly, at your own pace
- Strengthen the bond with your horse or pony .
Accessible to all, from beginners to experienced riders, ethology is not a type of riding or a technique: it is a science that leads to a philosophy of accompanying the horse, with respect for living beings and in harmony with nature.
Home visits are possible in the 95, 78, 60 departments for private lessons or small group classes.
